Dental veneers are thin sheaths or shells that fit over the front of the teeth, providing you with a new, enhanced smile. Veneers look just like the real thing. Veneers  are made of either porcelain or composite resin material, depending on your budget and preferences for your smile. Either way there is an option that will work for you.

Veneers do take some time and cannot be done in a day. There are certain steps and procedures that need to be done before your veneers can be applied and bonded.

Dental Veneer Procedure

The dental veneer procedure may require three visits to cover the entire process. Your teeth need to be prepped and a mold needs to be taken of your teeth so that the veneers can be made. All of this takes a few weeks from first appointment to application. The appointments include your initial treatment plan, the preparation, and the bonding of the veneers. We will give you a brief description of each.

• Treatment plan: During this step the dentist will check your teeth to confirm that you qualify for veneers. If you are in need of a root canal or if there are signs of gum disease or tooth decay, you may not be a candidate for veneers. Dr. Damore will discuss all concerns, options and your qualifications during this process.
• Preparation: To prepare your teeth for veneers we will be removing about half a meter of your tooth. Basically removing all enamel with a grinding tool. After that we will take a mold of your teeth and send it off to our lab for your veneers to be made.
• Cleaning: Once your veneers are ready, you will come in for a thorough cleaning so that there is no bacteria to be trapped under the veneer once it is place on your teeth.
• Bonding of Veneers: Once it’s time for the veneers to be placed in your mouth, the teeth will be lightly buffed to allow room for the thickness of the dental veneers, usually around a half a millimeter. After this is done, the procedure will differ between composite resin veneers and porcelain veneers.

Porcelain

If you’ve chosen to receive porcelain veneers, a mold will be taken of your teeth once they’re filed down. This mold is then sent to a laboratory, which will create your perfect veneers. Because this process can take several days, you may receive temporary veneers in the meantime.

Once your porcelain veneers have been prepared, Dr. Damore will place them on the teeth to make sure they fit perfectly. When it’s time to apply the veneer, the teeth will be cleaned and special chemicals will be applied to help the veneers bond to the teeth.

Veneer Maintenance

There will be an adjustment period before you feel completely comfortable with your new smile. However, you should continue with your oral hygiene routine, which should include brushing and flossing your teeth every day.
